The Unit 2 project my class has been working on is remixing. There's a saying that good artists steal, so we were asked to combine two different items in a drawing. I chose to combine two elements of nature, a deer and trees, because deer are the perfect image of serenity and grace, which I thought would look cool combined with the strength of trees. This project helped me to think outside the box a little more. It was difficult for me to think of two items with qualities similar enough to combine. Furthermore, it helped me to improve with my shading skills.
There are many sayings such as "There's nothing new under the sun," and "Good artists steal." It means that people grow off of each other's ideas. I used to think that original art meant that there was nothing else similar to it in the world. This unit helped me to learn that it's okay to be inspired by others and use similar elements, and that original art is just a combination of stolen elements.
I felt that my use of shading helped to make the deer look more life like, but it was challenging to draw the trees. If there was one thing I could redo, I would spend more time learning how to draw a more realistic tree and more smoothly combine my two elements. Other than that, I feel good about the way my drawing turned out
